Dress like Kate Middleton for under $500!
When they made the announcement of their engagement, she wore Issa. Above is an almost identical Issa dress available for purchase on net-a-porter.com for only $535! Personally, I think the dress is boring, but if you’re one of those “if she owns it, it makes it cool, therefore I should own it” type of person- go for it! Throw it on with a tiara, grab your Prince Willy blow up, add a blue gem on your finger, and your half way to princess-hood.
Alexander McQueen Retropective coming!
Oh what would I do without the Met?! Lucky for me I live a wee 5 Avenues from there…as in, leave my apartment, take a right, walk 5 Avenues, and BOOM, Gossip Girl wannabes everywhere! Well now I will have even more reason to travel this easy road. The Metropolitan Museum of Art (AKA the Met) has announce that an Alexander McQueen retrospective will be gracing the Met from May 4th-July 31st, 2011. The exhibition is called “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” and will display more than 100 examples of his work from his start at Central St. Martin’s through his posthumous final collection presented this year. Throughout the galleries will be pieces from five of his most important collections including Number 13 and Dante as well as a Cabinet of Curiosities which will include collaborative pieces made with Philip Treacy (hats, people) and Shaun Leane, jeweler. While I’m hoping to swipe an invite to the Costume Institute Gala (maybe in my next life), I will most likely try and see this event on opening day. See you there!

New Dior Video: Lady Grey London directed by John Cameron Mitchell
A visual treat! Makes me want to move to Paris, seduce an older man, and wear Dior for the rest of my life. C’est parfait!
KARL! For SHAAAAME! How could you?!
It was just announced that Blake Lively will be the new face of Chanel. I can’t put my finger on why exactly Black Lively pisses me off so much, but that, she do! Perhaps it’s that she can’t act. Perhaps it’s her multiple bouts of plastic surgery (OK- the rhinoplasty was needed). Perhaps it is the fact that she was called a fashion icon by Vogue magazine (who is an icon at twenty-flipping-three?!). I don’t know, but something about her is extremely off putting. And something is a wee bit deranged when it comes to Karl’s selection of Chanel spokespeople- remember the catastrophe that was Lily Allen? Neither Blake nor Lily are 1- uniquely stylish 2- talented 3- French! There really should only be one way to select the perfect face for the iconic brand. Ask yourself, “What Would Coco Do”? The answer is- not select broken down musician wannabes and sub-par television stars. What the hell happened to Marion Cotillard or Audrey Totou?! This is me angry, Karl. ANGRY!
What I want for Christmas, Part un:
1. OK- So I may not roller skate per se, but I am known to strap on my roller blades during what some would call ‘moments of drunken happiness’ (AKA every house party I’ve ever hosted)…how much cuter would these puppies be? The sad fact is, they are hard to track down in my size- go figure.
2. My favorite book turned into one of my favorite accessories?! YES PLEASE!
3. I don’t even need to say anything. You all know damn well why I would want these.
4. I begged for an iPad for my birthday and the birthday gods did not deliver. Hopefully Santa has a kinder heart.
5. I’ve been on the quest for the perfect key fob every since movin’ on up and this is the one I instantly wanted. Now that it is on sale, I think this may just be my Christmas present to myself. Is it a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a key fob? Probably, But I love it all the same, and I will be looking at it every day! I love justifying silly purchases.
6. The perfect recipe book for me as there is nothing I like less than dinner. Plus, the color of the book on my shelf will really POP.
7. My fantasy camera case for my fantasy camera- the Leica digital. Siiigh. I will never be able to afford the Leica, therefore will never need the case. We can all dream, can’t we?
I am painfully aware that I have been completely MIA these past few months and I would like to first, apologize for my absence and second, explain why I have been AWOL. As many of you know I have been on the prowl for a new job. I absolutely love Vanity Fair and would love to have stayed there, but my goals lie in fashion and at Vanity Fair I was editorial. Between interviewing for jobs plus staying on top of my [then] job at Vanity Fair I was unable to have time to rest, let alone blog. But the season of business is over! I am now brilliantly happy at my new job at LUCKY magazine- I am the assistant to the Executive Fashion Editor who I adore at a magazine that I am 100% in love with. I do hope you readers out there haven’t given up hope and can understand my lack of presence in the blogosphere. Stay tuned for my many thoughts on the trends of fashion past, present, and future! I’ve missed this!
